Coffee Shops in Champaign-Urbana
Coffee Shops in Champaign-Urbana Confession: I am a huge foodie, and nothing gets me more excited than a new coffee shop on campus. And as the weather cools down, what better way to warm up than with a cup of coffee?I remember my first campus tour at the University of Illinois nearly three years ago; I ended a long day of walking with a Spanish Latte from Espresso Royale. But the coffee landscape on our campus has changed over the past year, so if you are visiting campus, these are the java you need to give a try! BrewLab BrewLab is a new coffee shop that opened this past summer, and let me tell you. It. Is. Delicious! Located on Fifth and Green, this trendy little cafe offers delicious treats, lattes, coffees, and teas. Though it is a bit pricey, the best thing about BrewLab is that each drink is made with precision and care. That being said, this is not the place to go if you are crunched on time, but the wait is certainly worth it! Cafe Paradiso Cafe Paradiso is a personal favorite of mine. In fact, the best latte I have ever had on campus was from Cafe Paradiso. Located on Lincoln Avenue in Urbana, this cafe offers a relaxed and cozy environment that is great for getting work done. The prices are comparable to any big chain, and the quality is outstanding. Starbucks Okay, I love independent coffee shops just as much as the next coffee junkie, but Starbucks is great for so many reasons, too. First, it is quick and consistent. The drinks are the same anywhere you go, so you know what you are going to get. Second, there are Starbucks at every corner, so location will never be a problem. Unlike other coffee joints, Starbucks offers great rewards programs and bonuses, as well. Hammerhead Coffee Hammerhead Coffee is one of the most underrated coffee shops on campus, and maybe thatâs because it is just on the cusp of campus on University Avenue. I have only been to Hammerhead once, but I had a great experience! My iced tea was brewed from loose tea leaves and then poured over ice. It was not too sweet, but was super tasty! Pricing was moderate, and there were plenty of options for non-coffee drinkers, too. Espresso Royale Truth be told, I donât love Espresso Royale like I used to, but it felt wrong not to include Espresso on this list. Coming from the suburbs, I had never seen an Espresso before coming to Champaign, but I quickly learned that Espresso Royale in Champaign-Urbana is comparable to Starbucks in Chicago. Espresso offers baked treats, sandwiches, teas, and coffees. Places I still need to try Etc. Coffeehouse Cafe Kopi Flying Machine Coffee Rachel Class of 2020 I am studying Middle Grades Education with concentrations in Social Sciences and Literacy in the College of Education. Although I now reside in Champaign, I am originally from Vernon Hills, a Northwest suburb of Chicago.

Analysis Of Homer s The Iliad - 899 Words
Homer s poem The Iliad is a prime example of your protagonist and antagonist going against each other, With one main character Achilles fueled by his all consuming wrath and need for vengeance, and the other main character Hektor fueled by his obligation and desire to guard his city and protect his family. Homer s Iliad has been open to several different interpretations and different versions have circulated even in Greek art. The Harvard Collection has a vase in it that tells a similar but very different version of Achilles tale. On this vase painting we see Achilles reclining in his char eating, laying below where he eats lies Hektor s corpse. His corpse is placed beneath Achilles as if he is a rug, in the left of the painting (as if catching Achilles by surprise is Hektor s old father Priam who appears to be begging at Achilles knees, and to the right of the painting is Achilles battle amour. The scene depicted by the painter shows how Achilles anger has become his obsession, you can almost see a crazed look painted for Achilles expression. In the painting the author is very detailed oriented as can be seen with Hektors corpse. Details are painted onto Hektors body to show that his ankles had been bound and scratches and marks on the body are to indicate the body had been tossed around. The artist focuses completely on Achilles anger or obsession in contrast to Homers version of the poem which spends more time building to the climax of the story, and developing itsShow MoreRelatedAnalysis Of Homer s The I liad Essay1231 Words à |à 5 Pagesthe Iliad is a tale of war and aggression (Puchner 183). Swot Analysis for Nintendo - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 5 Words: 1367 Downloads: 10 Date added: 2017/09/13 Category Advertising Essay Did you like this example? Company overview Nintendo is a Japanese based corporation founded in 1989. Itââ¬â¢s original purpose was producing handmade hanafuda cards. After failed attempts at changing the direction of the company, it found success in the interactive entertainment systems and software industry. It changed its name from Nintendo Playing Card Company to Nintendo Company, Ltd. in 1963. Since then, Nintendo Co. has been creating video games and gaming systems that have become tops in their respective categories. In the early 1980ââ¬â¢s, Donkey Kong was introduced to the markets and became an instant classic. This was followed a couple years later with Super Mario Brothers and Legend of Zelda. All three of these games are recognizable by most people. After these games were introduced on Nintendoââ¬â¢s original game system, Nintendo introduced an upgraded version of their original gaming system and called it Super Nintendo. This 16-bit console enjoyed instant success in both the Japan and American markets. Five years later another upgrade was introduced called Nintendo 64. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Swot Analysis for Nintendo" essay for you Create order Since then, Nintendo has introduced Nintendo Gamecube and Nintendo Wii. Both systems, along with the previous consoles, have enjoyed much success along with the software (games) that they also create. Today, Nintendo is still enjoying an increase in sales with their Nintendo Wii console and games. Although Nintendo only works in the Video Games industry, the company is also the majority owner of the Seattle Mariners in Major League Baseball as well as a partial owner of the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA. The SWOT analysis of Nintendo Strengths According to Datamonitorââ¬â¢s company profile on Nintendo, published on September 17, 2007, Nintendo has four main strengths: A strong brand name, high returns, high employee efficiency, and debt free status. ââ¬Ë Nintendoââ¬â¢s strong brand name comes from about twenty-five years experience in the video gaming business. Not only do they have a strong presence in the console market but they are the leader in the handheld console market. They pioneered this market in 1989 with the original Game Boy. Since then, they have upgraded to create Game Boy Advanced and Nintendo DS, which sold 79. million units and 40. 3 million units, respectively, in fiscal 2007. The Nintendo Wii, which is their most updated console, sold 5. 84 million units in the first five months in its launch alone. This system consists of motion sensors attached to the end of the controllers as well as the console, which makes the games more interactive. A high percentage of the people that play video games in todayââ¬â¢s day are college students. Being part of that percentage, I know that I think highly of Nintendo based mainly on the fact that they created regular Nintendo. If I could choose today between playing the most technologically advanced gaming console and the original Legend of Zelda, I would play Legend of Zelda for hours. Nintendo has also been very successful in investing their resources in profitable companies and ideas. This would include their ownership in the Seattle Mariners and the Atlanta Hawks. It also refers to their high return on assets and equity when compared with other companies in the same industry. Nintendo also has high employee efficiency. According to Datamonitor, ââ¬Å"revenue per employee was about $206,960 in fiscal year 2007, significantly higher compared to the industry average of about $3,684 during the same period. â⬠Nintendoââ¬â¢s biggest strength in my opinion is their ability to stay debt free. Their most recent debt to equity ratio was zero compared to the industryââ¬â¢s average of 11. 9%. This not only shows that they are able to efficiently finance itsââ¬â¢ operations but also enjoys a lot of financial flexibility. Weaknesses Nintendoââ¬â¢s two biggest weaknesses are having a dependence on contract manufacturers as well as having low earnings per share. In regards to the dependence on contract manufacturers, Nintendo reaches out to companies to produce the key components of their consoles as well as assembling the finished products. The problem is, the new Nintendo Wii console is under such high demand that the manufacturers are not able to supply the key components or assemble the products fast enough creating a lack of finished products to be sold. It is assumed that this shortage will have a sizeable affect on the companyââ¬â¢s overall revenue. Low earnings per share is calculated by dividing profit by the weighted average common shares. Nintendo recorded a 12. 6% decline in its earnings per share for five year period, from 2003 to 2007, significantly lower compared to the corresponding industry average of 43. 9%. â⬠This is important to note because it may affect the investors in the company negatively by lowering their confidence. A third weakness is the lack of games produced for Nintendo consoles. In my personal opini on, I have steered away from recent Nintendo products such as Gamecube and Wii because of the lack of games so far. Regular Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Gameboy, and Nintendo 64 all had a wide variety of games. Gamecube and Wii, however, have been overshadowed by other systems with many more games such as Playstation 2, Xbox, and Xbox360. It seems as if Nintendo is always so anxious to get their gaming systems out that they never wait to have enough games to satisfy their customers. Opportunities Nintendo has a few different opportunities. For starters, the United States game software market is soaring right now. Video games and consoles are some of the most sold items, especially during the holiday season. Because of their reasonable prices, games can be given as gifts by pretty much anyone. The video game market is also soaring as is evident by the $8 billion dollars in revenues in 2006 in addition to the consoles market generating $6. 6 billion dollars in revenues during the same year. These figures are expected to increase as well over the next couple years to reach up to $10. 3 billion dollars at the end of 2011. Another grand opportunity that Nintendo is planning on attacking is the Indian console market. Although the revenues are not nearly as much as the American market, the Indian market for consoles is expected to skyrocket to $120 million by 2010 from just $13. million in 2006. Because of Nintendoââ¬â¢s great brand image, as discussed under strengths, Nintendo will succeed in these new markets. The greatest opportunity, however, is in the online gaming market. The world is continuing to become more computer oriented in such that computers are now about as normal household item as a television set. Because of this, and the generation of children growing up in this kind of environment, the market of online gaming is become increasingly large. In 2006, only 46 million people were using broadband connections to play video games online. That number is expected to jump up to 413 million users by the year 2010. Nintendo has taken steps to attract this audience by setting up their Wii system to be internet accessible and have the ability to update content, including up to date weather services and news feeds. Threats There are a handful of threats that go along with all of these opportunities and strengths, however. For one, Nintendo products are often very pricey. This allows other products with similar or slightly lesser quality to steal customers by pricing their respective consoles and games to make them more affordable. Another knock on the Nintendo products is their short lifecycle. In the video game industry, products ââ¬Å"lose their flavorâ⬠after approximately nine months, at which point a different product will come out that seems to be more updated and technologically advanced. Because of this, Nintendo will have to make sure to release all products on time and be able to meet the demand of their products with their supply. Leaving stores sold out of products will result in loss of sales in the long run due to the short lifecycle that each product will enjoy. The last threat to Nintendo products is their poor durability. The Nintendo Wii controllers have had the most significant problems when it comes to this. In many circumstances, the Wii controllers have not been properly designed resulting in the controller flying from the userââ¬â¢s hands and into televisions sets. Having problems such as these results in recalls, which is a very lengthy and expensive process. To prevent this, Nintendo must confirm that all products are being properly designed and manufactured prior to release.

Why the United States dropped the Atomic Bomb Per Essay Example For Students
Why the United States dropped the Atomic Bomb: Per Essay suasive Essay The atomic bomb is the subject of much controversy. Since its first detonation in 1945, the entire world has heard the aftershocks of that blast. Issues concerning Nuclear Weapons sparked the Cold War. We also have the atomic bomb to thank for our relative peace in this time due to the fear of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD). The effects of the atomic bomb might not have been the exact effects that the United States was looking for when they dropped Little Boy and Fat Man on Hiroshima and Nagasaki respectively (Grant, 1998). The original desire of the United States government when they dropped Little Boy and Fat Man on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was not, in fact, the one more commonly known: that the two nuclear devices dropped upon Hiroshima and Nagasaki were detonated with the intention of bringing an end to the war with Japan, but instead to intimidate the Soviet Union. The fact of Japans imminent defeat, the undeniable truth that relations with Russia were deteriorating, and competition for the division of Europe prove this without question. Admittedly, dropping the atomic bomb was a major factor in Japans decision to accept the terms laid out at the Potsdam agreement otherwise known as unconditional surrender. The fact must be pointed out, however, that Japan had already been virtually defeated. (McInnis, 1945) Though the public did not know this, the allies, in fact, did. Through spies, they had learned that both Japans foreign minister, Shigenori Togo and Emperor Hirohito both supported an end to the war (Grant, 1998). Even if they believed such reports to be false or inaccurate, the leaders of the United States also knew Japans situation to be hopeless. Their casualties in defending the doomed island of Okinawa were a staggering 110,000 and the naval blockade which the allies had enforced whittled trade down to almost nothing. Japan was quickly on the path to destruction. (Grant, 1998). Of course, the Allies ignored this for the reason that dropping the atomic bomb on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki would intimidate Russia. Had they truly been considering saving more lives and bringing a quick end to the war in Japan, they would have simply waited them out without the major loss of life seen at both Hiroshima and Nagasaki. At the Yalta conference, Franklin Delano Roosevelt asked Josef Stalin for Russian support in the war with Japan. (Claypool, 1984) In return for Russian Support against Japan, Roosevelt agreed to terms that some historians feel helped create more tension between the two countries because it gave Russia too much power in world affairs. (Claypool, 1984, Pg. 53) At the time, Roosevelt was not confident that the United States could win the war easily without Russian support. He simply assumed that Japan would have to be invaded (Claypool, 1984). After Roosevelts death on April 12, 1945, Truman was sworn in as President of the United States (Claypool, 1984). As situations developed and progress on the atomic bomb continued to increase, Truman felt that a Russian invasion of Japanese territory might not be necessary. If the atomic bomb was effective, there was no need to have the Russians invade Manchuria. . . There was always the possibility that a Russian invasion might mean communist rule after the war. (Claypool, 1984, Pg. 78) It was quite apparent, in fact, to many world leaders that the United States did not want Russian intervention once work on the atomic bomb had been completed. In fact, Prime Minister Winston Churchill has been quoted writing: It is quite clear that the United States do not at the present time desire Russian participation in the war against Japan. (Claypool, 1984, Pg. 78) As World War II came to a closure, two new superpowers emerged: the United States and the Soviet Union. The United States obviously felt that if they could prove to the world that they had superior weaponry, that it would be held in the highest regard by all nations of the world. Hiroshima and Nagasaki gave them the power to do just that. .u5f8a13840f96aea264c79315bc59034e , .u5f8a13840f96aea264c79315bc59034e .postImageUrl , .u5f8a13840f96aea264c79315bc59034e .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u5f8a13840f96aea264c79315bc59034e , .u5f8a13840f96aea264c79315bc59034e:hover , .u5f8a13840f96aea264c79315bc59034e:visited , .u5f8a13840f96aea264c79315bc59034e:active { border:0!important; } .u5f8a13840f96aea264c79315bc59034e .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u5f8a13840f96aea264c79315bc59034e { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u5f8a13840f96aea264c79315bc59034e:active , .u5f8a13840f96aea264c79315bc59034e:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u5f8a13840f96aea264c79315bc59034e .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u5f8a13840f96aea264c79315bc59034e .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u5f8a13840f96aea264c79315bc59034e .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u5f8a13840f96aea264c79315bc59034e .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u5f8a13840f96aea264c79315bc59034e:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u5f8a13840f96aea264c79315bc59034e .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u5f8a13840f96aea264c79315bc59034e .u5f8a13840f96aea264c79315bc59034e-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u5f8a13840f96aea264c79315bc59034e:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Black Panther Party for Self - Defense: Huey P Essay It is apparent that because of the troubled relations with Russia, and the confidence that the .

This poem is a reflection of the poetââ¬â¢s romantic experience revealed with the help of a number of expressive symbols and literary devices which create the mysterious atmosphere of the world of emotions. The ââ¬ËSurfaceââ¬â¢ of the Poem As has been mentioned above, the poem is a res ult of the poetââ¬â¢s sad romantic experience. The woman he loved broke his heart and the poet warns other people to be more careful. The major theme of the poem is unhappy love and the way to love. The poet claims that a person can never lose oneââ¬â¢s head, otherwise he/she is likely to lose his/her heart in the game called ââ¬Ëloveââ¬â¢. Yeats is regarded as a great Symbolist poet who managed to make every word meaningful and symbolic. The poem in question is an example of the poetââ¬â¢s style. The poem is full of symbols and hidden meanings. It is also necessary to note that though the poem was written in 1905 when Modernism was flourishing, the piece under consideration is traditional in form, just like the majority of the poetââ¬â¢s works (Ross 170). Therefore, the poet warns people in a very symbolic but, at the same time, explicit way. The Meaning and Symbolism One of the major symbols in the poem is the symbol of the play, called ââ¬Ëloveââ¬â¢. The p oet warns people that it is dangerous to play the game, especially if a person is completely devoted to the one he/she loves, ââ¬Å"And who could play it well enough / If deaf and dumb and blind with love?â⬠(Yeats 79). The poet compares love to a game. On the one hand, the play means a variety of rules and conventions which people have to follow. Glances, smiles, kisses of ââ¬Å"smooth lipsâ⬠and ââ¬Å"brief, dreamy, kind delightâ⬠can be regarded as different tactics to play the game (Yeats 79). Apart from this, there is another symbol. In the poem, the heart also stands for a stake, ââ¬Å"He that made this knows all the cost, / For he gave all his heart and lostâ⬠(Yeats 79). Clearly, the poet compares the heart to a stake. Those, who love with all their hearts, can become miserable (and lose their hearts) like a gambler loses all his money, i.e. everything in the game. Furthermore, heart is also a symbol of selfless love.Advertising Looking for essay on literature languages? Let's see if we can help you! The poet warns people and stresses that a person should try to critically see the dearest one and his/her behavior. Finally, Yeats claims that love is unlikely to go on forever and he uses the following symbolic line ââ¬Å"it fades out from kiss to kissâ⬠(79). Therefore, Yeats uses symbols to reveal his grief. In his poem, the poet admits that love can be unfair and painful. The Form To have a deeper understanding of the poem, it is important to analyze it in terms of rhythm, meter and literary devices used. Lines in metrical rhythm can be described as tetrameter since there are four feet, ââ¬Å"But a brief, dreamy, kind delight. / O never give the heart outrightâ⬠(Yeats 79). The meter used is predominantly iambic, ââ¬Å"For he gave all his heart and lo stâ⬠(Yeats 79). This adds clarity and expressiveness to the poem. The rhythm is simple and does not distract the reader from perceiving the meaning of each line. As has been mentioned above, the poem is full of meaning and symbols, which are revealed with the help of a variety of literary devices. One of the most apparent devices is repetition of the word ââ¬Å"heartâ⬠which is used four times (Yeats 79). This repetition is used to emphasize the importance of being economical with emotions and be less devoted to the dearest one. Besides, the repetition is used as the heart is central to the poem. It has several meanings and functions. Thus, it stands for love, devotion and a stake in a dangerous game. It is but natural that it is used several times. Metonymy is also used to create the image of a beautiful woman, ââ¬Å"smooth lipsâ⬠(Yeats 79). This device is used to make the poem more expressive. Admittedly, the reader will picture the image of the perfect woman as he/she sees it. Though the device is a bit trivial (lots of poets glorify this part of the womanââ¬â¢s face), it perfectly fits the present poem as it creates the necessary atmosphere of the imagery and somewhat dim world. The dim atmosphere is also created with the help of the following line, ââ¬Å"That it [love] fades out from kiss to kissâ⬠(Yeats 79). Love can easily vanish after several dates. The poet also resorts to quite a common metaphor, ââ¬Å"If deaf and dumb and blind with love?â⬠(Yeats 79). However, in this context, the line creates a very specific image of a gambler who plays his/her game blindfolded. This device supports the poetââ¬â¢s symbol of the game. The reader pictures a gambler who puts everything (own heart) at stake and loses the game. Conclusion To sum up, the poem in question is a majestic reflection of the deepest emotions of the poet in love. Yeats manages to transform his grief into a small literary masterpiece as a love story is told in fourteen lines only. These fourteen lines are full of symbols and meanings. Each line stands for certain stage, i.e. falling in love, giving oneââ¬â¢s heart away, disappointment, grief and wisdom. According to Shakespeare, life is a play and people are actors. Yeats makes another important observation which focuses on psychological or spiritual sphere of the human existence.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The Poet in Love, the Poet in Pain specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The poet notes that love is a game where peopleââ¬â¢s hearts are stakes. Yeats stresses that this is a dangerous and painful game which can make people lose the most important, their hearts, i.e. their desire to go on. The poem brings back sad memories to those who have had such experiences. It also warns those who are only about to give their hearts away. In any case, the poem makes the reader feel that love is what makes people ins pired and wise. Works Cited Ross, David A. William Butler Yeats: A Library Reference to His Life and Work.
